Climate in Swedish Lapland
Skellefteå region is characterised by a subarctic climate: long, usually cold winters, and brief, mild summers. Temperatures can drop to −40 °C (−40 °F) and in summer, may exceed +30 °C (86 °F).
During the darkest time of the year, December-January, the sun barely rises above the horison; days get longer in March and in June the sun barely sets. Summer daytime temperatures range from 15 °C to 30 °C, while night-time and early mornings are cooler. July is often the warmest month of the year. Late August and September departures could encounter cooler temperatures and slightly fewer hours of sunlight, as fall arrives early at these latitudes.
Winters are long, cold and snow rich with low humidity. Snow starts falling in late November and disappears completely by the end of April, beginning of May. It's unusual for us to have temperatures below minus 20 degrees Celsius or snow depth in excess of 150 cm.
